ABOUT ABOUT

Join ACFW DFW for our annual mini-conference (online) Saturday, April 13, 9am to 3pm CDT. This year’s theme is “The Power of Story.” Interact with four speakers as they present on five different topics. We'll also have breakout rooms during lunch where you can chat with like-minded writers and some of our speakers.

Our award-winning keynote, Lynne Gentry, will present "The Power of Story - Keynote address." Discover the secrets of powerful storytelling by examining the Parables of Jesus. Learn how to apply the story elements Jesus used to create narratives that change the world. Her second workshop will delve deeper into the details of “The Power of Story,” with a craft discussion.

Allie Pleiter, the best-selling author of over 60 books, shares the nuts and bolts of how to manage your muse with “Writing the Chunky Method.” You'll learn how to set goals and deadlines that reflect your personal writing style and speed--and smart ways to get faster when you need it. With a useful mix of the practical, the inspirational, and the nitty-gritty real life of it all, this workshop gives writers the tools they need to make the magic happen.

Kat Lewis in "Universal Fantasies," will discuss what is often described as the "secret sauce" to bestselling fiction. Universal Fantasies encapsulate the secret desires humans long for and are the subconscious reasons readers are drawn to a novel. Through the eyes of Disney & Marvel, we'll explore the emotional strings that Universal Fantasies pull on and how writers can weave that into character arcs, trope choice, and even marketing tactics to ensure high impact and appeal and to find the right readers every time.

Finally, Shannon Dunlap will present "A Spoonful of Canva." A spoonful of Canva helps the platform-building go down! Meet the tool that helps writers design fun and engaging social media posts for their audience. Free and available online, this user-friendly program can be accessed by laptop or phone app and holds a treasure of templates, photos, and audio/visual material. This class starts with the basics and covers topics ike editing photos, creating book trailers, QR codes, stickers, and advertising flyers. Whether you are brand new to Canva or have some knowledge and would like to pick up a few time-saving shortcuts, this class is for you.

In addition to our classes, you may sign up for a pitch session with Cynthia Hickey, owner and Editor-in-Chief at Winged Publications. Polish those pitches and come ready to grow as we learn to harness the power of our stories.

Join us for door prizes, a digital goodie bag, fellowship and more!
